Boxing Day Walk ~ Quarry Bank Mill

So my virgin blog post comes to you after a cobweb shifter of a walk to Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire.

After our customary Indian meal for our Christmas dinner, it seems to have become a bit of a tradition for us to go for a walk on Boxing Day, weather permitting of course.

It lets us escape the cabin fever from the run up to Christmas, get some time without devices and reconnect as a family In the fresh air.

We started off well, even despite the rain. Of course first the obligatory trip to the loo before we set off for me and my ‘old lady bladder’ as my husband so lovingly puts it; and then we were off.

A quick wander round the grounds and a couple of pics, we love this place any time of year!

So in his wisdom Mike (the better half?) decided we should do the route we did last time through the woods in reverse..

It’ll take about an hour, he says.

Off we trot, Charlie (the youngest) is unusually cheery, it’s boding well for a nice walk so far!

Glad we made the girls don their waterproof leggings, we were like pigs in sh*t! Nevertheless there were still smiles; We turned down past the old ruin and headed into the woods, along the path at the side of the fields and then down onto the woodland walk.

There’s always something you haven’t seen before, this time we discovered a den built of sticks and some colourful fairy doors.

So after crossing the bridge and up this sodden hill and an hour in...

He says it! Mike turns to me and says,

We’re heading the wrong way, we’ll have to go back

I could of throttled him!

GO BACK?!

That unusually happy child I mentioned before, yeah! Not so happy now!

All of a sudden both girls start to complain that their energy has faded ugh!

After some coaxing, or as every parent knows it... gentle bribery, off we headed back down the sodden hill and over the bridge.

We eventually got back to the point where Mike had us take the wrong turn and continued on the way we should have.

Two hours later,we headed back down through the gardens and even got smiles from the girls

The reason of course was the bribery method we had used earlier, it was of course an ice-cream...

No matter what the weather they seem to con us out of an ice-cream lol

So even after our little hiccup we all had a lovely time, came back dirty as Peppa Pig but we had fun and we weren’t the only nutters out on this rainy day, we passed loads of other families also blowing away the cobwebs.

One reason why we love the National Trust, so many families can enjoy a fab day out for a small cost if you’re a member.

if you haven’t already joined or fancy some cheap days out then have a toot at their website https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/

So here I am signing off my first blog post, if you’ve read it, thanks so much!

I’ll be back with more soon

Helena x
